TESOL 2012 - NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGY AS A TOOL IN TEACHING: GET MOBILIZED

It’s about the relationships, not the technology.

Relationship between teacher and student… Relationship between student and device…Relationship between device and content… Relationship between technology and the environment.

Get familiarity with the mediums that students use in their everyday lives.

Content needs to leverage the capabilities of the device.

You wouldn’t use a television to display a newspaper – don’t try to force print media onto digital devices.

Mobile device is a Secondary device – you use it when you are also doing something else.

Think about what resource needs and environmental pressures.

Will your solution be viable in the areas you want to implement it?

However, you must use technology in all your relationships.

You need to use MOBILE.

There are over 5 billion mobile phone subscribers.

They outnumber PC users up to 10 to 1 in developing markets.

By 2018, 85% of all web usage will come through mobile devices.

Tablets are a disruptive technology – they are a hybrid between mobile and computer.

Localized uses of SMS as a resource.

You need to use the WEB.

            Voice of America

            DynEd International

            Youtube Content

            Free & Paid Resources

Your students are web-savvy; you need to be able to guide them to the best resources out there.

Writing Planet with Peg

You need to use SOCIAL NETWORKS.

Using technology…

            MAKE MISTAKES!

                        Try everything.

                        Be Open.

                        Partner with Everyone.

                        Be a Pioneer!
